Manatelangana/Hyderabad: The craze for Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree is increasing. Degree students are mostly interested in joining B.Com course. With increasing job opportunities for commerce students in banking sector, chartered accountant as well as various finance institutions and companies, students are inclined to join B.Com. Out of those allocated seats through Dost, a maximum of 87,480 seats were admitted in B.Com courses alone. Of the total admissions, 41.47 percent B.Com seats were filled.

Most of the B.Com seats are secured by Balure. While 48,074 (54.95 per cent) boys joined in B.Com, 39,406 (45.05 per cent) boys got admission. According to the changing conditions, the universities have made available new degrees like BBA, BBM, BCA, BSW, but the students prefer traditional courses. Students are showing interest in B.Sc after B.Com in degree. A total of 44,315 students got seats in B.Sc Life Sciences through Dost, while 31,581 students got admissions in B.Sc.Physical Science.

The unabated craze for B.A

The craze for the Bachelor of Art (BA) degree is not abating at all. For some years, students who thought that studying BA did not get much job and employment did not go for that degree. Even the degree seeking students have mostly given high priority to B.Sc and B.Com courses. But in competitive exams like Civil Services, Group-1, Group-2, Group-3, Group-4, candidates who have studied Art subjects are getting most of the jobs. Candidates who have studied other subjects will have to work hard to excel in subjects like history, civics and economics even if they write the competitive exams. It seems that the students who want to prepare for the competitive exams are mostly inclined towards BA degree. Currently 31,838 (15.09 percent) students have got admissions in BA course in the academic year. Also 11,823 people got admission in BBA.

Students who are not interested in new degrees

According to the changing conditions, universities have introduced new degrees like BBA, BBM, BCA, BSW, but students are not showing much interest in these courses. These courses can attract new students, but in the long run, students prefer traditional courses. In this academic year, 3,100 seats were filled in BCA, 750 seats were filled in BBM and only 91 seats were filled in BSW.

52.06 percent are girls

The number of girls pursuing higher education in the state is increasing significantly every year. In the current academic year, 2,10,970 seats have been filled in degree colleges across the state. Most of these admissions are made up of girls. Of the total degree seats, 52.06 per cent girls got admissions while 47.94 per cent boys got admissions. Even with a degree, jobs are available at par with vocational courses. Some colleges have tied up with various companies to provide campus placements. With that, the number of students joining degree courses is increasing every year.
