Our Telangana/Hyderabad: The state government has given another good news to the people of Hyderabad. The second phase of the Metrorail project has been decided. The state government has decided to undertake this project with its own funds of Rs.6,250 crores. The government has undertaken the first phase of Metrorail works on the PPP model, but the second phase works will be undertaken entirely with government funds. Meanwhile, the second phase of work will be carried out from the Metro Terminal at Mind Space Junction to Shamshabad International Airport.

The foundation stone of these works will be laid by CM KCR on December 9. The second phase route will run through Biodiversity Junction Kazhaguda Road touching Nanakram Guda Junction at Outer Ring Road. A metro train runs from the airport through a separate route. The government is moving ahead with the determination to complete these works in three years. It is learned that the Delhi Metro Corporation has already submitted a comprehensive project report to the government regarding the second expansion. Many international companies are already building their offices along this metro line with a total length of 31 km.

Considering the future transportation needs
Meeting the future transport needs of Hyderabad, which has become a cosmopolitan city, the state government has designed the metro project to reach Shamshabad Airport from any part of the city in the shortest possible time. All major metro cities of the world also have metro rail facility to the airport. In this background, the design of this metro project with international standards has been done in the background of CM KCR’s vision of making Hyderabad a cosmopolitan city.

In the face of traffic congestion in the city of Hyderabad, which is expanding massively with world-class investments, connecting the metro to the airport has become a top priority. Hyderabad is going to become a destination for more investments due to the metro project. Hyderabad is implementing plans to cope with the ever-increasing traffic in the city. Already with the direction of the CM and the efforts of the state municipal minister KTR, large scale transport infrastructure is being provided. The state government is strengthening many projects, flyovers, link roads and other road systems.

Officials say that if the construction of this metro is completed and made available, it will be possible to reach the airport from Mindspace to Shamshabad Airport in just 25 minutes. However, the state government is also hoping to take help from the Center for the pending metro expansion of 26 km from BHEL to Lakdikapool and 5 km from Nagole to LBnagar. It has already submitted DPRs to the central government for this.

It takes 50 minutes to reach the airport by road
At present there is no connectivity to the airport from the metro corridors available in Hyderabad. At present, the city has 69.1 km metro rail facility on LBnagar to -Miyapur, JBS, -MGBS, Nagol- to Rayadurgam routes. In this background, it takes about 50 minutes to go to the airport from Rayadurgam by road. As part of that, the government hopes that the second phase of the metro rail line will be the connectivity for the IT employees as well as those going to the airport.

One station at 5 km..
It is known that a metro station will be established every five kilometers on the airport route. Arrangements are being made to develop transport oriented projects in connection with these stations. It is known that soil quality tests have already been done to facilitate the installation of fillers as part of the establishment of stations. It is reported that seven or eight stations are likely to come up in a total area of 31 km. This Metro Biodiversity Junction will be constructed through Khajaguda Road adjacent to Nanakranguda Junction at Outer Ring Road. International organizations are already maintaining their offices in these areas. At present, the government hopes that if this metro is completed, its operations will continue more smoothly and without traffic problems.

Proposals three and a half years ago
As part of the second phase of the metro rail, the Telangana government proposed a 31 km metro from Rayadurgam to Shamshabad Airport three and a half years ago and also established Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited for the development, construction, maintenance and operations of this route.
Loss of Rs.3 thousand crore till April
Before Corona, an average of 4 lakh people used to travel in metro trains per day. Metro faced financial difficulties for two years after Corona. The number of passengers has reduced and only 2.7 lakh people are traveling. It is in this context that the Metro Rail project has suffered a loss of Rs.3 thousand crores, said the MD of Metrorail in April this year. It is known that the government along with the metro has decided to take up the second phase of metro works due to the increase in the number of passengers.
