Manatelangana/Hyderabad: A notification has been released for tenders regarding the construction of Shamshabad Airport Metro in Hyderabad. Hyderabad Airport Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has invited these tenders. HMRL said that the bidding documents will be issued from today. July 5 has been announced as the last date for this bidding. This Airport Metro contract is worth Rs. 5,688 crore confirmed by Metro Rail Limited. As part of CM KCR’s idea to make Hyderabad compete with international cities, the government has made plans to have a metro in Hyderabad up to Rajiv Gandhi Airport. In 2018, the CM suggested to the authorities that there should be a second phase of express metro so that tourists and foreigners can reach the airport directly from the city without any hindrance. In March of the same year, the state government set up a special company called Hyderabad Metro Limited.
Direct access to the airport
HMRL has drawn up DPR for the 30.7 km stretch from Rayadurgam to Shamshabad Airport. The project did not materialize due to lack of funds. However, due to the allocation of adequate funds for the metro in this year’s budget, the project will now move forward at a fast pace. In this regard, this year CM KCR waved the green flag and laid the foundation stone. But now that tenders are being called, the project will pick up speed. The government is going ahead to complete it in three years. The Airport Metro Rail will start with the newly constructed Rayadurgam Airport Station, 900 meters away from Mindspace intersection. This alignment has been designed with the coordination of GMR to reach directly to the airport from Biodiversity Khajaguda pond side to Nanakranguda junction, from there to Narsinghi, Appa junction, Rajendranagar, Shamshabad, airport cargo via ORR side.
The airport metro will provide more advanced facilities than the existing metro.
Seats (chaircars) are available to accommodate more people.
Glass screen windows are installed on the platform for safety. They open at the same time as the coach doors open after the metro train stops at the station. Changes in aero dynamics are made to enable trains to run faster. Lightweight stainless steel and aluminum coaches. These stations will be constructed in the developing areas of the corridor. Skywalks are arranged for the passengers to reach them. Boards will be installed at the stations to provide information about flight arrivals. Baggage checks are done in coordination with CISF police.
The airport terminal will be constructed at a distance of 0.9 km from Rayadurgam Metro Station.
Airport metro stations are closed circuit.
Shamshabad – Airport has two separate stations for cargo line and passenger line.
While the metro station is being constructed to accommodate six bogies, only three bogies are being constructed in the first phase.
