Hyderabad: Eight new government medical colleges will be set up in the state as part of a major boost to medical education in Telangana. These institutions will be established in Jogulamba Gadwal, Narayanapet, Mulugu, Warangal, Medak, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy and Medchal Malkajigiri districts. Official order sanctioning new medical colleges has already been issued. The total number of MBBS seats in the state has reached 10,000.

The establishment of these new colleges means that 25 of the 33 districts of the state now have medical colleges. This is a milestone that underscores the Telangana government’s commitment to increasing access to medical education. It is known that the Minister of Health and Medical Affairs Harish Rao had earlier ambitiously announced that at least one government medical college should be set up in every district across the state.
