Software park not allocated to Telangana

None of the 22 recently announced software technology parks will be allocated to Telangana
Evidence of Center Discrimination: Minister KTR

Mana Telangana / Hyderabad: State IT, Industries and Municipal Affairs Minister K Taraka Rao Marau has expressed deep dissatisfaction and outrage that the central government has done untold injustice to the state in the allocation of software technology parks (STPIs). He lamented that none of the 22 software technology parks recently announced by the Center would be allotted to the state. He questioned if this was not the discrimination being perpetrated by the Center on the state. However, he said that it was the responsibility of the Center towards the states. Isn’t this disruptive to the federal spirit? Deposed. In any case, the Center is showing step-by-step love for the state at every step. He said the country is developing as all the states are developing comprehensively. He said it was unfair for the Center not to allot software parks to Telangana, which had allotted software parks to Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Arunachal Pradesh, Orissa, Bihar, Punjab, Jharkhand and Kerala.

Minister KTR on Saturday wrote a letter to Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav to this effect. The letter lamented the manner in which the Center was acting. The letter detailed the discrimination shown by the Center towards Telangana. He questioned whether it was reasonable for the Center to neglect every step of the way as it should have done more for Telangana, which has been making tremendous progress in all fields in just eight years. In this context, the letter asked the Union Minister to allocate software technology parks to Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Nalgonda, Khammam and Mahabubnagar towns in the state. He said that Telangana is one of the states excelling in the IT industry. On the occasion, Minister KTR reminded that the growth rate over the last few years has been higher than the national average.

In 2014..20-15 only Rs. IT exports stood at Rs 57,258 crore, up from Rs. 1,45,522 crore. KTR said in its letter that the number of employees in the IT sector has also increased by over 6,28,000. Apart from this, Minister KTR also mentioned that Telangana is surpassing the state of Karnataka in terms of commercial office space which will touch the future growth. The state government has taken several policy decisions for the development of the IT industry. In his letter, Minister KTR referred to the achievements of the IT sector in developing the IT sector with policies specific to various sectors such as electronics, rural technology, image and data center, and the appreciation received for those policies across the country. Hyderabad has become a leading IT hub not only in the country’s IT sector but also internationally. Headquartered in Hyderabad, he said many of the world’s largest companies are expanding their operations on a large scale.

KTR said the state government has been making policy decisions and infrastructure for the last few years to expand the IT industry to Hyderabad as well as second and third tier cities. The Union Minister was informed that various companies have already started their operations utilizing the plug and play infrastructure set up by the government in the respective towns. He also criticized the central government for not considering Telangana in the allocation of software technology parks and badly damaging youth employment opportunities here, ignoring the fact that the IT industry is expanding in such a large scale IT industry as well as in the second and third tier cities. In his letter, Minister KTR referred to the fact that the Central Government had already abolished the Information Technology Investment Region-ITIR and betrayed the state’s IT sector and youth.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao himself has jointly appealed to Prime Minister Modi for the revival of the ITIR. As the IT minister himself, he and his group of MPs have repeatedly made joint appeals to the central government, but so far there has been no response. He further said that the allocation of software technology parks announced by the Center at present was completely unfair to the state and was a testament to the central discriminatory attitude. He said that if the state of Telangana, which is an integral part of the country, achieves tremendous progress, it should be understood that it will contribute to the welfare and progress of the country. Minister KTR asked the Center to reconsider the issue of allocating software technology parks to the state immediately, acting as a broad-minded center.
